At Tina Cowley Reading Centre in Summerstrand, Port Elizabeth – we focus on READING. We do a scientific reading evaluation to ascertain whether a problem is present, and structure an individual program to optimally improve reading, spelling and comprehension.  All relevant aspects associated with reading are addressed, such as eye kinetics, Brain Gym  and Handle therapy, which allow all micro systems in the body to work together as one big macro system.  Our results are the guarantee! Our holistic program consists of a 45 minute reading skills class, which addresses the basic skills necessary for reading, and a 45 minute computer based reading class, which addresses reading, spelling and comprehension. We make use of the user friendly Tina Cowley patented keyboard that associates a picture with an alphabet letter.

In the memory method class, different therapies, namely basic skills, handle, brain gym, eye kinetics and spelling rules are combined to enhance reading, learning and spelling.

The basic skills of reading include spatial relations,  form perception, sequencing and auditory perception are enhanced to equip the student with an improved reading quality.

Eye kinetics is a series of eye exercises which is used in order to strengthen the eye muscles. Like any other muscle in the body, the eye muscles can also be strengthened through exercise. When the muscles in the eye are strengthened, it leads to smoother eye movement which is very important when reading.
